Public Notary

Each member is a recognized Public Notary, having been officially admitted by the Supreme Court of Western Australia as a Public Notary. In other jurisdictions, they are called a Notary Public. This accreditation signifies that they possess the legal authority to do the following in relation to documents intended for use internationally and to facilitate international commerce:

  • Administer oaths and affirmation, including verifying the identity of the person swearing or affirming an affidavit;
  • Prepare affidavits, affirmation and declarations verifying the due execution of a document by a person or company;
  • Witness and attest the executing or signing of deeds and documents, including verifying the identity of the person swearing or affirming an affidavit;
  • Prepare notarial certificates in respect of taking an oath or affirmation for an affidavit or declaration and for the execution and signing of deeds and documents;
  • Examine originals with copies and verifying that they are true copies;
  • Prepare notarial certificates verifying a copy of a document is a true copy;
  • Note and present bills of exchange and prepare, issue and enter protests of bills of exchange; and
  • Prepare and attest ship’s protests and extensions of ship’s protests.

Their signatures and seals are recorded by the Department of Foreign affairs and Trade so that the Department can provide Apostilles and Authentications, verifying that the notaries are duly appointed to act in Western Australia.
